Artist's Statement

Bill Perry lives and paints in Harmony, Pennsylvania-a small, rural community North of Pittsburgh. He was a Visual Arts Instructor for the Pittsburgh Public Schools for Thirty-Six Years and upon retirement accepted an Adjunct teaching position, teaching History of Western Art, at Carnegie Mellon University. He followed this with a position at Slippery Rock High School teaching two studio art classes. He has subsequently retired completely from education. He currently teaches workshop and adult art classes and devotes the remainder of his time to painting full time. Bill has a BS in Art Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and did post graduate work there as well as at Penn State and Clarion Universities.

Bill began his painting career with oils but has subsequently taken up the medium of watercolor. He is a Signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and belongs to many local and National Watercolor associations. He has won awards for his paintings both locally and in National competitions. Bill does not make prints of his work; the originals are to be found in numerous private collections.

Bill finds his inspiration in the nearby countryside, looking for things that have been transformed by some special quality of light and color. He searches for moments when the light is ‘just right’ and the familiar becomes something very special that he can capture with his watercolors.
